GE’s Static Variation Compensator (SVC) technology solves complex network problems for customers around the world
Paris, FRANCE – September 10, 2019 – Energy networks around the world are facing increasing demand. Transmission systems are now expected to carry massive amounts of capacity in ways they were never designed to handle. Because of this, these systems are becoming more complex – and GE Solutions’ business, GE Renewable Energy [NYSE: GE], is growing.
Grid Integration Solutions, a division of GE Grid Solutions, achieved five major milestones and project wins in the first half of 2019 in Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), specifically related to its industry-leading Static Var Compensator (SVC) technology ). GE’s unique, innovative and patented SVC technology provides effective and efficient solutions to network constraints faced by utility operators around the world, and customers continue to turn to GE for new and improved FACTS and SVC designs. Consisting of high voltage direct current (HVDC) and FACTS technologies, the Grid Integration Solutions division develops and integrates transmission solutions that help meet the world’s current electricity demand.
“The Static Vacuum Compensator (SVC) solution is a cost-effective and efficient way to provide dynamic voltage support and maintain power reliability and efficiency. These solutions are highly reliable, easy to integrate with existing and new infrastructure, and reduce the costs of building new network extensions. GE operates the broadest SVC portfolio in the industry, providing the data and knowledge needed to support continuous industry innovation,” said Fabrice Julien, Global FACTS Business Factor Leader for GE Solutions, GE Renewable Energy.
GE’s network innovations help customers navigate the world of energy, including:

Commenting on the Jeddah North project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a Saudi Electric spokesman said: “This is our second SVC project with GE. The combination of advanced technology and benefits gained from the main reactor design and project feasibility is the key reason why we chose GE for these projects »
Most SVC technology providers offer only a limited set of traditional or classic designs. While these configurations have proven reliable in many applications, the global energy landscape demands new solutions. In addition to classic SVC solutions, GE also offers an exclusive offer called “Master Reactor Design”. The SVC reactor core design improves both harmonic efficiency and size compared to traditional designs, which distinguishes GE products from those of other SVC suppliers.
